Hashi is a puzzle game that challenges players to connect islands using bridges. The objective of the game is to connect every island with the number of bridges indicated on the island itself. The islands can be connected with either one or two bridges.

To win Hashi, players must ensure that every island is connected to every other island, either directly or indirectly, forming a closed network. It's important to note that bridges cannot cross each other.

One of the unique features of Hashi is that each game is generated and therefore unique, offering unlimited gameplay without the need for any payment.

Features:

  • Unlimited puzzles available for free
  • Undo/Redo functionality
  • Timer and personal high score tracking
  • Game progress is automatically saved
  • Different difficulty levels
  • Night mode option
  • Detailed help section
  • Leaderboards to compare scores with others
  • Achievements to unlock

The gameplay of Hashi is straightforward. Players press on an island they want to connect, then shift to the desired target island and release their finger to build a bridge. To remove a bridge, players repeat the same process.

Different levels in Hashi vary in field size. Players are encouraged to try more difficult levels as progress is saved, allowing them to continue later.

Strategies:

  • Starting with the highest numbered islands is generally recommended. Building bridges will eliminate bridge possibilities for other locations, forcing the placement of additional bridges where there are no other options.
  • Islands with specific numbers require bridges connected to every available direction. For example, a corner island with a 4, a side island with a 6, or a central island with a 7 all require bridges extended to all directions.
  • Islands with fewer possible bridge connections, such as 3, 4, 5, or 6, should also be considered when planning bridge placements.
  • It's important to observe islands that have limited options remaining. Connecting an island with a number of 1 when three of its possible directions have already been blocked by bridges is a strategic move.
  • Remember that all islands must be connected to form a single network. Therefore, certain connections that would join two islands with the number of 1 are not possible.

History:

The first version of Hashi, also known as Hashiwokakero, was published in September 1990 in the magazine "Puzzle Communication Nikoli." However, an earlier version of the game had already been released in December 1989.
